CREATING AN INVITING IV SUITE

It’s hard to believe it’s time for our Week 3 update on the One Room Challenge already! No matter how many times I participate, I’m always amazed at how someone seems to find the fast-forward button every time the ORC begins. That said, I’m thrilled to say that we’ve had some very exciting deliveries this week! Today I’m going to share the key pieces we’ve selected to make the IV suite as inviting as possible.

The joke between Amber and I is that if you have to get your arm poked, you should at least have something inspiring to look at to distract you. Funny, but oh-so true! Our hope is that these pieces will create the kind of beautiful welcome that helps Amber’s patients relax and exhale as they work to improve their health.

The Hospitality Centre

By far the most central piece of furniture to creating the warm welcome we want to extend is Bernhardt’s Winston Credenza. This stunning and sophisticated anchor piece will serve as the Hospitality Centre in the IV Suite, where patients can help themselves to tea or infused water before their treatment begins.

The gorgeous patina you see on the Winston is German Silver, which has been used on architectural structures and decorative pieces for more than 2,000 years. The credenza is hand-carved from solid wood and then finished with loving attention to detail using individually applied sheets of silver. The artisanal finish of Bernhardt’s German Silver creates a truly stunning piece that is as individual as it is beautiful. A protective topcoat slows the oxidation of the silver, but each piece will develop its own unique patina over time, which I love. This handsome fellow will also serve as a storage space for blankets, pillows, heating pads and other necessities in the IV Suite, making it as practical as it is beautiful.

The Side Tables

To introduce an organic element while playing off the cool and warm tones in the Winston Credenza, we decided on the Hearth Side Tables from Renwil. There’s something about a tree stump reinterpreted in a modern metal finish that feels so fresh, and their tidy 12.5″ diameter will allow patients to keep beverages and personal items at hand while not getting in the way of treatment.

The Trim Details

We wanted the trim details for Docere to be clean and modern, so we selected some gorgeous profiles from Metrie’s collection that will significantly elevate the interior styling of the entire wellness centre.

The 7 1/4″ high Metrie baseboard we selected will offer substance and style with simple elegance. I love the profile on the matching casing, too, and I’m very excited to see our plans for a feature wall of applied panel moulding come together. We didn’t have the budget for the multiple pieces of art required to fill the long wall against which most of the IV chairs will sit, but the panel moulding treatment will create enough of a statement that it will still feel very thoughtfully considered.

The Nurse’s Station
Refrigeration

The Nurse’s Station is where the elements for the IV infusions will be stored and custom-mixed to each patient’s specific needs, so we needed a high quality under counter refrigerator that would seamlessly integrate with the base cabinetry. Enter Perlick’s 15″ Signature Series Refrigerator Drawers.

Built to the same exacting standards as commercial products with the refinement of a residential design line, the Perlick Signature Series can be integrated almost anywhere. The only limit is your imagination, with applications such as hidden refrigeration drawers in Master Ensuites to store medications and delicate skin care products becoming increasingly popular in luxury homes.

To maintain the totally professional standards of function and beauty for this project, we turned to BLANCO to outfit both the sink at the Nurse’s Station and the sink in Amber’s office.

Choosing a Sink and Faucet

BLANCO has been producing high quality kitchen products since 1925, making them an industry leader around the world. The perfect marriage of quality, functionality, aesthetics and professionalism, the Quatrus U1 sink, Urbena faucet and Torre soap dispenser will undoubtedly stand the test of time and look incredible while doing it.

Cabinetry Hardware

When it came to selecting the hardware for the cabinetry, the same principles of quality, functionality and beauty applied. Naturally we turned to Top Knobs, the number one supplier of decorative drawer pulls and knobs to the professional market. We quickly fell in love with the Lydia collection, and I can’t wait to see these modern hexagon knobs and pulls installed on the clean white cabinets!

THE PROGRESS

With drywall up and tile floors installed, things are really starting to take shape at Docere! It will be very exciting to see the trim added and everything painted as we finalize artwork, a special feature wall treatment in the reception area, and all the finishing touches required for a beautifully finished space! Be sure to check back next week for further details, and in the meantime head here and here to see what all of the other design daredevils taking part in the One Room Challenge are getting up to!
