Our Family Photos + Some Gorgeous Custom Christmas Cards from Minted

As my sneak peek from Tuesday suggested, we just had our family photos done by the fabulously talented Gabriela Hansen. Unbeknownst to her, Gaby is the first photographer to take our family photos for us two years in a row. With many portrait photographers, once you’ve done one session with them, you’ve pretty much captured their aesthetic and there’s not really anywhere else to go with it. Gaby, on the other hand, just keeps growing and evolving and I knew she would do a brilliant job of capturing the essence of our family in a fresh new way again this year.

And I really think she nailed it. I mean, just look at these shots of Noah for starters!

Somebody call Kinfolk Magazine, because I think I just found their next photographer/model team. I know I’m biased, but is this kid not irresistible?
I’ve loved this man for almost half of my life, and I’m going to love him for the rest of it. He makes me laugh and supports me and loves me through thick and thin. I am truly blessed.
I love how Gaby captures the feeling of family. One of my favourite things in life is holding hands with my boy. I didn’t tell her that, but she seemed to know it intuitively, and she captured it beautifully. In fact, I would say her editorial style captures moments and creates memories, even as you’re enjoying the shoot with her. Noah loved the afternoon just as much as the rest of us, despite the chilly temperatures. If you can make a 10 year old happy and get him laughing while taking his photo on a freezing cold day, you’ve succeeded in my book!
We actually laughed a LOT, and there may or may not have been some photobombing that took place.
The truth is, there were so many great shots to choose from that we had a really hard time landing on just one to use for the front of our custom Christmas cards from Minted. Pretty great problem to have, right? And we had the same awesome problem when it came to choosing the card style!

I was beyond thrilled when the creative team at Minted generously reached out to me and offered to provide us with our cards for this holiday season. Minted is a crowd-sourced design company based in San Francisco that draws upon design talent from all around the world with monthly competitions to find the most creative and refreshing designs and designers going. The winning designs are then printed in a variety of products, including totally customizable holiday cards.

Just take a look at some of the gorgeous options available:

And they can all be customized with seemingly endless options, from super thick paper to folded cards to laser-cut shapes and even Christmas ornaments like the first image above! I guess I’m a bit of a traditionalist, but I still like writing inside a folded card, so here’s what we chose:
And here’s how we customized it inside. I love that there’s still room for us to write a personal message while having our broader family holiday wishes captured for us ahead of time with the customization of this layout. Brilliant!

If I’d been a tad more organized, I totally would have taken advantage of the free option to have them print all of the addresses on the envelopes as well. How awesome is that?! Even the liner of the envelopes and the Skinny Wrap return address stickers are adorably detailed:
In the spirit of generosity, Minted has offered my readers a 15% discount on all holiday card orders now until the 27th of November. That’s one whole week to make it happen, and then you can kick back and relax with a good cuppa knowing your gorgeous custom cards are on their way to you, lickety-split! {Shipping and turnaround times are super fast.}

Just use the discount code CURATED15 when you check out, and let me know how your cards turn out! This is probably the most excited I’ve been yet to send mine to family and friends. Thank you Gaby for the gorgeous photos, and thank you Minted for the incredible cards!
I’m a grateful girl.

High Point Market Highlights | Bernhardt

All it took was one look at this first furniture grouping in the Bernhardt showroom and I felt like I was home. The “northern inspired” room felt like Canadiana-meets-Brian-Gluckstein in the best way possible. A sophisticated library with elegant pieces, unexpected lines and all kinds of warm textures in the wool, plaids, leathers and faux fur, this room really left me wanting to curl up and pull a book off the shelf and stay awhile!

The modern wingback chair {above} with it’s sculptural shape, refined arm and nailhead detail was instantly one of my favourite pieces, and it sits like a dream. This is a piece that could be upholstered a thousand ways that would all be nothing short of gorgeous. As I’ve said before, if you get the lines right on a piece, you can really do anything with it, and this brilliant design from Bernhardt is a perfect example of that design lesson. This chair could easily be taken in a more contemporary Dwell kind of direction with a bright orange velvet and no nailheads, but it would be equally at home in the pages of Traditional Home upholstered in dove grey mohair or a sumptuous leather as it is shown above.

In a moment of “Mad Men meets JayZ” magic, this furniture grouping {above} had me swooning and singing along to a Sinatra/Justin Timberlake mash-up in a New York minute. The brass edging on that coffee table is so irresistibly precise yet so sexy and modern, and the warmth of all that chocolate brown makes me feel like I’ve just been dipped in a visual fondue. The brass frame on the armless chairs feels as though it has an aviator reference, and this is one furniture set I could buy off the showroom floor. As you know, that is saying a lot coming from me. Major kudos to the design team at Bernhardt for this sexy stroke of genius.

I also fell in love with this horn rimmed arm chair, shown here upholstered in hair-on-hide leather {and below in an elegant and refined warm white}. The “horn” is actually moulded resin, but the patina and finish are so realistic I found myself wondering for a brief moment how on earth Bernhardt could reproduce this chair out of natural horn so consistently!

Speaking of hair-on-hide, these next two pieces {below} had me biting my palm and creating my own personal wish list. The warmth and sophistication that these pieces illicit are an intelligent juxtaposition to the often rustic feel of hair-on-hide, and the elegant simplicity of their lines elevates them entirely. They offer the perfect rustic modern statement for a myriad of spaces, all of which I want to design.

Speaking of elegant lines, this feminine and delicately proportioned tub chair {below} is a quiet, classic beauty that totally caught my eye. I love the bamboo frame in the brushed platinum finish, and again, it sits like a dream. A pair of these chairs would make such a refined and inviting sitting area in a master bedroom retreat.

I can’t begin to showcase the vastness of the lines offered by Bernhardt {all executed with exquisite craftsmanship}, but this next vignette should give you some idea of the diversity and beauty of their offerings.

The bone inlay marquetry is stunning, isn’t it? The coffee table {below} is such a gorgeous statement piece in the striking blue that I predict will be the colour of the year for 2014. And those creamy faux fur “Wooly Mammoth” stools? Well they just feel fresh, hip, fun and fabulous in their simplicity, like a pair of Gorusch Mia Paris Boots.

Bernhardt definitely presented one of my favourite showrooms, marrying quality, design and craftsmanship into incredible lines to suit almost any interior. Thank you to Stephanie and her amazing team for such gracious hospitality and endless inspiration!

Oh Baby! | A Gorgeous Giveaway | Moccasins from Freshly Picked

{Photo by Gabriela Hansen}

With just over 7 weeks left in our countdown to this little man’s debut, it’s time to celebrate with something special! I am getting so nesty over here, feeling the drive to get the boys’ rooms done in a hot minute, and of course to get wee little clothes purchased, washed and ready for his arrival. {What is it about folding tiny infant clothing that makes me teary? Oh dear!}

We just had our family photos done {the image above is a sneak peek from our wonderful afternoon with Gabriela Hansen} and I’m basically feeling the maternal love all around.

Today, though, it’s all about sharing the love! Susan, the brilliant founder and designer behind Freshly Picked Moccasins, has generously sent me these perfect little beauties for our seedling’s first pair of fashionable kicks.

Here’s what I l-o-v-e about Susan’s gorgeous product. Not only are they super hip and a totally irresistible fashion statement for the little one, but they are also super soft and naturally breathable, handmade in the US and exactly the kind of shoe that research shows helps to promote a healthy foot in your babe.

In the early stages of crawling and walking especially, these soft soles allow little toes to feel and grip the surface beneath them, which is extremely important to them finding their footing and learning to get around naturally. Oh yes, and the brilliant elasticized neck of these shoes means that you will not be losing one during your walk through the park. These beauties stay put! Say goodbye to lost shoes and socks and the resulting heartbreak of popsicle toes! Your wee one’s tootsies will stay warm and cozy thanks to this innovative design.

Adorable and healthy…it doesn’t get much better than that!

I don’t want you to feel left out of all this stylish goodness…so…today I am hosting a GORGEOUS GIVEAWAY of 2 pairs of Freshly Picked Moccasins!!

This giveaway is open to residents of the US and Canada only, and here’s how you can get in on the action:

Each of these gestures of social media lovin’ will get you one entry into the giveaway, and I’ll announce the two lucky winners in two weeks’ time! Be sure to share your social media likes and shares in the comments below so I know about each of your entries, and good luck!
