Thursday Pick-Me-Up | Alexander Fairchild

Oh Spring. I’m so happy you are here, but today I wish you were just a little less:

moody.
weepy.
messy.
foreboding.
tempestuous.

I am convinced that the only cure for a grey day like today is really good music. Really good happy music. And so I’m sharing some from my friend Alexander Fairchild.

My prescription for this dreary day? Put this track on repeat, brew lots of dark coffee, put on your best wool socks, wrap up in your coziest blanket and get inspired for the brighter days. They truly are ahead of us.

Going Green With Your Makeup Routine | The Great Mascara Search, Part 1

I have so enjoyed the process of discovering incredible, natural, toxin-free products on this journey of going completely green with my makeup routine. It has been quite an education, and I’m so excited that we can share in the learning together!

I must thank the lovely ladies at Saffron Rouge for so graciously leading me to some of the niche products that I was searching for. Case in point: they led me to our first mascara contender in The Great Mascara Search {aka The GMS}! Yes, mascara is so important that I’ve given it its own category in this journey! And so, without further ado, here are my thoughts on Dr. Hauschka’s Volume Mascara.

In weeks to come, I’ll be sharing some makeup tutorials from the very talented Justine McKnight. Her response to using this mascara was that she was quite pleasantly surprised at how amazingly it applies – she wasn’t expecting that out of a natural product!

It’s true – it applies like a dream. The brush has the perfect density of bristles to ensure that every lash gets coated without clumping. The product lengthens and defines lashes for an easy natural look with one coat, but it is also buildable for a much more dramatic look with a few coats. It is essentially everything I would look for in a mascara…except…I have watery eyes. And this is neither waterproof nor created for ladies who tear up easily. So for me, the search continues! But if you are not a watery-eyed woman like myself, then I cannot recommend this mascara highly enough. It really does hit all of my “must haves” but that last one!

Next week I’ll be sharing my top picks for cheeks as I continue Going Green With My Makeup Routine. Hope you’ll join me!

To your toxin-free, glamorous health.

Design Find | The Wonders of 3D Printing

Technology astounds me. I still pause with wonder sometimes at what I can do with my little iPhone 5 simply by nudging a finger or “pinching” the screen. It has become commonplace and everyday, yes, but it is still worth a little amazement every once in awhile, don’t you think?

Should we be tempted to take technological advancements for granted, the latest in 3D printing will no doubt make us all stop and stare once more. Perhaps you’ve already heard of 3D printing? It is being used in architecture to render remarkable scaled models like this one.

If that doesn’t make your jaw drop at least a little, consider that this 3D printing technology is now being applied to the field of medicine with the printing of customized artificial joints. What? Yep. I have head-to-toe chills thinking about the possibilities of what is to come as they refine the use of this mind-blowing technology.

And if you’d like to wear an affordable piece of the 3D printing puzzle, several designers have started exploring this exciting medium with fantastic results. I just love these Air Tattoo necklaces by Logical Art.

This Stereodiamond necklace by geraldesign is pretty fierce.

And I absolutely love the graphic, faceted simplicity of this Italian designed piece from husband and wife team Orlando Fernandez Flores and Lucia De Conti of MYBF {my best friend}.

From jewellery to 3D models to artificial joints, it seems the applications for this incredible technology are limitless. Hope it has your imagination whirling in three dimensions!
