Design Find | Kelly Wearstler Fabrics + Wallcoverings for Groundworks

I have a confession to make. I have a girl-designer-crush on Kelly Wearstler. It’s been a real thing for a few years now. Why? She’s fierce, she’s sexy, she’s bold, she’s the embodiment of luxurious, maximalist chic, and she’s taken both the interior design and fashion worlds by storm.

With that confession out of the way, it should come as no surprise that I am head-over-stiletto-heels in love with Wearstler’s new collection for Groundworks.

An international tastemaker and famed interior designer, Wearstler has a remarkable gift for reclaiming a vintage aesthetic and reinventing it with such an overdose of modern, rock star glamour that it becomes completely fashion-forward, fiercely sexy and utterly drool-worthy. Take the stunning wallpaper pictured above, for example. Reminiscent of the 60’s? Yes. Totally bleeding-edge gorgeous? {bites palm} Yes.

In creating her first collection of wall coverings and second collection of trims for Groundworks, Wearstler references environmental elements {both natural and urban} including street art, brushstrokes, gradient colouring, water and wood. Her lavishly modern aesthetic reinterprets these references into a collection that is nothing short of stunning.

Kelly Wearstler’s work has been featured in international publications including: Vogue, Elle Décor, Harper’s Bazaar, Architectural Digest, InStyle, Conde Nast Traveler and The New York Times, among many others. In an extensive 2009 profile, The New Yorker called Wearstler “the presiding grande dame of West Coast interior design.”

If this little amuse-bouche of Wearstler’s aesthetic has whetted your appetite, you can get a regular fix by following her blog, My Vibe, My Life.

Better yet, go get your interior designer to pull all the memos he or she can find from Wearstler’s collections of fabrics, wall coverings and trims for Groundworks and infuse your home with some of her unapologetically over-the-top glamour.

Design Find | The Casa Acanto Collection by Fisher Weisman

It’s been nearly a year since that fateful day when I naïvely stumbled into the design offices of Fisher Weisman, thinking I’d come upon a retail store. Their bright red door – top half open to the breeze – was the perfect gateway to the enticing view of spectacular custom pieces within. Little did I know that in that moment I had surreptitiously discovered one of the premier design firms in San Francisco.

Today I am delighted to tell you that this brilliant design duo has recently launched their own line of accessories and furnishings, bringing their impeccably original and timelessly beautiful designs to a wider audience with the launch of Casa Acanto.

The name for the eponymous Casa Acanto collection was drawn from Andrew Fisher and Jeffrey Weisman’s spectacular 18th century San Miguel De Allende Mexican retreat, recently featured in Architectural Digest.

Casa Acanto‘s stunning collection of tables, desks and accessories showcases Fisher Weisman’s brilliance for pairing exquisite craftsmanship with intricate details and the use of unexpected materials. The collection is at once timeless and yet somehow other-worldly, inviting a fanciful sense of wonder and admiration at their attention to detail and delightfully unique designs.

“The Casa Acanto collection showcases the dramatic style and unabashed luxury that have become hallmarks of our interiors,” said Andrew Fisher, Chief Creative Director of Casa Acanto. “Throughout the course of our careers, custom pieces have been key to our work and the Casa Acanto collection enables us to offer our designs to a broader audience that appreciates inventive design.”
Perhaps my favourite grouping in the Casa Acanto collection is the Veracruz series of outdoor tables, exquisitely crafted from Brazillian teak and powder coated steal. The way these pieces fit together like a puzzle is entirely genius, and the flexibility they offer for a variety of configurations for entertaining is perfect for our fluid and flexible lifestyles. I can see this collection of tables making a stunning formal dining table for an indoor dining space just as much as outdoors, but how decadent to dine in such luxury under the stars!

Perhaps it is in their collection of Casa Acanto accessories that Fisher Weisman‘s sense of whimsy and wonder are most keenly expressed. The golden toad appears to have materialized straight out of the pages of a fairytale.

Casa Acanto is the culmination of our combined five decades in the design industry,” said Jeffry Weisman.  “The collection pairs rich materials with fanciful details and exquisite workmanship.  We are thrilled to offer these distinctive pieces, designed to transform any room.”
With such a delightful initial offering, I will most definitely be keeping a close watch on all things Casa Acanto and Fisher Weisman! They have unquestionably captured my imagination and delighted my appetite for innovative design.

Fisher Weisman Interior Design | San Francisco

Sometimes not knowing the city you are exploring can be a blessing. Such was the case on my recent visit to San Francisco. Wanderlust matched with a gravitational pull towards all things breathtaking and beautiful drew me along a typically steep and visually charming street. In the distance, a bright red door {top half open to invite in the breeze and my admiring gaze} drew me forward. Then, through the opening I spotted the most unusual, elegant and over-scaled light fixtures. Assuming this must be an interior design shop, I impishly swung open the other half of the lovely paneled red door and invited myself inside. It was the surprised looks on the faces of this beautiful space’s beautiful occupants {along with their polite and warmly quizzical greeting} that led me to discover that I had in fact stepped inside the wonderful world of the Interior Design offices of Fisher Weisman. Not a retail shop, but undoubtedly a feast for the senses.

Given that they do not have a retail home to which I may direct you for a visit, I will instead share with you just a taste of this dynamic design duo’s incredible work.

As you can see, their portfolio is at once diverse, refined and highly sophisticated. Though each space is clearly as unique as its inhabitants, you may notice a signature element in many of them: custom pieces artfully crafted – or shall I say encrusted – with shells. {Note the ceiling mounted faucet above the tub in the elegant ensuite bath; the chandelier in the antique-mirrored dining room; and the large, open barrel chandelier in the modern living room above.}

It was just such a pair of enormous and elaborate light fixtures that drew me into their design studio on that fateful day. This is in fact one of their signature looks for some of the custom-designed lighting and furnishing they create for their clients. To me it looks as though each piece in this collection has been dipped into the ocean just long enough for magical sea creatures to adorn each table, chair and chandelier with a blanket of off-white shells. If barnacles could be transformed into beautiful jewelery, this is no doubt how they would appear.

Other custom pieces from Fisher Weisman – such as this paneled demi-lune table – can be found on Architectural Digest’s prestigious shopAD.

I am so delighted to have stumbled upon this award-winning design firm and their inspiring work. I hope this little glimpse into their portfolio leaves you dreaming in sea-shells, sophistication and grand scale today.
