Design Find | Eskayel

I recently stumbled upon a Brooklyn-based design studio that has me seriously swooning. Their aesthetic is both fresh and unexpected – edgy and sexy yet soft with a modern classic sensibility. I think it is their uniquely artistic, hand-painted patterns that have me most a-flutter. Add to that their environmentally responsible approach to interior surface design and I’m hooked. From fabrics to wallpaper and rugs to a collaborative furniture collection with ABC Carpet + Home, ESKAYEL totally has my number. Just take a peek at some of their designs. {*bites palm with excitement*}

It’s a watercolour, ink-blot damask wallpaper with allusions to Ikat patterns! Could it be any more GORGeous? I think not.

So delicate, so modern. One could transpose a thousand dreams onto these patterns, like finding shapes in the clouds on a perfect summer’s day.

The furniture collection in collaboration with ABC Carpet + Home is totally boho-modern chic.

How fabulous to infuse a space with some carefree, artistic brushstrokes with these incredible ottomans? Love.

By reproducing their hand painted patterns locally in the northeastern United States on natural and recycled grounds, Eskayel’s made to order fabrics and wall-coverings are as eco friendly as they are visually inspiring. Eskayel offers six major collections with 159 patterns and colourways available in PRIMA vinyl free residential and commercial wallpaper, CLASSIC clay coated wallpaper, recycled type II contract wallcovering, natural linen and organic denim fabric and more. Eskayel’s made to order fabrication methods accommodate almost any kind of customization. Colour and scale of existing patterns can be transformed or they can work with designers to create an entirely new design to fit in within your creative vision with virtually no minimums. Can anyone say “designer’s dream?” Yes please.

I think their rug collection may have wowed me the most. Crafted of 100% silk, these rugs are nothing short of spectacular.

I seriously just want to roll around on the rug pictured above. Not sure what that says about what I’m reading into the ink blot for this one…or about me in general!

Eskayel was founded in 2008 by artist and designer Shanan Campanaro. The Central St Martin’s graduate has worked in both graphic design and fashion, but has always been interested in interiors believing that the atmosphere and vibe of a room can transform ones mood. Having lived in many different spaces and more than a few countries before the age of 30, the importance of building an environment of true self expression and comfort in each of her homes became a huge priority and obsession.

Campanaro began by turning that passion into wallpaper and now with her partner, Nick Chacona, Eskayel continues to bring to the market innovative products of the highest quality that are luxurious, natural and beautiful.

I am going to be dreaming in watercolour and delicate pattern, longing for the day when I can use one of Eskayel’s fabrics on an upcoming project. Thanks so much for the inspiration, Shanan and Nick!

Design Find | The Casa Acanto Collection by Fisher Weisman

It’s been nearly a year since that fateful day when I naïvely stumbled into the design offices of Fisher Weisman, thinking I’d come upon a retail store. Their bright red door – top half open to the breeze – was the perfect gateway to the enticing view of spectacular custom pieces within. Little did I know that in that moment I had surreptitiously discovered one of the premier design firms in San Francisco.

Today I am delighted to tell you that this brilliant design duo has recently launched their own line of accessories and furnishings, bringing their impeccably original and timelessly beautiful designs to a wider audience with the launch of Casa Acanto.

The name for the eponymous Casa Acanto collection was drawn from Andrew Fisher and Jeffrey Weisman’s spectacular 18th century San Miguel De Allende Mexican retreat, recently featured in Architectural Digest.

Casa Acanto‘s stunning collection of tables, desks and accessories showcases Fisher Weisman’s brilliance for pairing exquisite craftsmanship with intricate details and the use of unexpected materials. The collection is at once timeless and yet somehow other-worldly, inviting a fanciful sense of wonder and admiration at their attention to detail and delightfully unique designs.

“The Casa Acanto collection showcases the dramatic style and unabashed luxury that have become hallmarks of our interiors,” said Andrew Fisher, Chief Creative Director of Casa Acanto. “Throughout the course of our careers, custom pieces have been key to our work and the Casa Acanto collection enables us to offer our designs to a broader audience that appreciates inventive design.”
Perhaps my favourite grouping in the Casa Acanto collection is the Veracruz series of outdoor tables, exquisitely crafted from Brazillian teak and powder coated steal. The way these pieces fit together like a puzzle is entirely genius, and the flexibility they offer for a variety of configurations for entertaining is perfect for our fluid and flexible lifestyles. I can see this collection of tables making a stunning formal dining table for an indoor dining space just as much as outdoors, but how decadent to dine in such luxury under the stars!

Perhaps it is in their collection of Casa Acanto accessories that Fisher Weisman‘s sense of whimsy and wonder are most keenly expressed. The golden toad appears to have materialized straight out of the pages of a fairytale.

Casa Acanto is the culmination of our combined five decades in the design industry,” said Jeffry Weisman.  “The collection pairs rich materials with fanciful details and exquisite workmanship.  We are thrilled to offer these distinctive pieces, designed to transform any room.”
With such a delightful initial offering, I will most definitely be keeping a close watch on all things Casa Acanto and Fisher Weisman! They have unquestionably captured my imagination and delighted my appetite for innovative design.

A Chair Worth A Stare | Taylor Llorente

Inspiration comes in all shapes, sizes and price tags – some accessible, some just dreamy-worthy. Today’s inspiration is certainly the latter variety for me as the über-luxe sticker attached certainly puts it well out of my reach. But no price tag can prevent me from taking great pleasure in admiring it from afar and drooling over it with you, my friends.

Feast your eyes, if you will, on Taylor Llorente’s Cane Chair Design 5610.

This extremely sculptural and modern reinvention of a traditional wingback chair first captured my attention as I was perusing images I had stumbled upon of a stunning hotel in Paris, La Hotel Maison Champs Élysées. I am in love with so many details of this chair: the large scale honeycomb, faceted panel construction; the strong nod to the traditional wingback in a fiercely modern silhouette; the use of traditional caning {in use since the 1600’s in traditional European furnishings} made utterly fashion-forward, edgy and anything but commonplace. This chair gets it so right in so many ways and is the ultimate statement piece to punctuate a space with soaring ceilings and abundant natural light. Just look at how it shines like a diva on stage in these images of it in situ at La Maison Champs Élysées.

It must be said that the architecture and finish selections in this hotel are unspeakably fabulous, and yet this singular chair still managed to leap out and grab me by the lapels and say “Look at me! Look only at me. Love me.”

Of course, I couldn’t help but take some time to admire the other spectacular design details in the space. Sophistication and humour seem equally honoured with the impeccable juxtaposition of modern and traditional at La Maison Champs Élysées.

Traditional wall paneling and fireplaces are made far less serious when installed as wallpaper murals. The application over bi-fold doors opening into minimalist and restrained modern vistas {seen below} is simply brilliant, as if an invitation to walk through design history as easily as passing through a doorway. The balance of sophistication and whimsy is positively delicious.

And all of this, of course, serves as the perfect stage to spotlight today’s design inspiration and Chair Worth A Stare, Tayler Llorente‘s brilliant Cane Chair Design 5610.

Standing O, Tayler Llorente. Standing O.
