Design Find | Sian Zeng | Linens, Art + Decorative Cushions

You may remember back in October I posted about a brilliant woman and her ingenious line of magnetic wallpapers. The UK-based Sian Zeng absolutely wowed me with her sense of unfettered imagination and wonder, and she’s done it again.

I’m thrilled to be able to share the news that Sian has expanded her product line. Building upon the enchanting characters in her wallpaper collection, Zeng has developed a delightful collection of children’s bed linens, wall art and decorative cushions that are unstoppably charming.

BED LINENS

Can’t you just imagine the bedtime stories that would emerge from nightly snuggles under these imaginative bed linens? Tiny fingers tracing the buildings and flowers, walking like characters from one scene to the next. It’s the stuff childhood memories and sweet, sweet dreams are made of.
DECORATIVE CUSHIONS

This flying pig is officially on my wish list for the nursery. I mean, come on! Anything is possible when pigs fly!

And the frog prince and princess? To me they are the makings of a modern-day fairytale where no one needs to turn back into anything because they already are just as they should be…oh, how I would love telling that story!

WALL ART

Sian Zeng‘s entire collection is available here. The only hard part will be choosing which characters should be featured each night in your child’s fairytale bedtime routine!
Thank you so much for such imagination-expanding inspiration, Sian. You’re my kind of girl.
// In all the excitement of announcing my pregnancy last Thursday, I forgot to announce the winner of the Sweet Paper Crafts giveaway! Congratulations Nicole! Please email me at sarah@thecuratedhouse.com with your mailing address so the lovely folks at Chronicle Books can get that off to you! //

Design Find | {Oh!} mineheart

I recently stumbled upon a UK company whose ability to surprise and delight me with each product I explored had me saying Oh! mineheart. My guess is, they’ll have you saying the same.

ONE: Poetry Plates

I am utterly in love with this collection of fine bone china plates. If I were a bride-to-be, these would be on my registry in a heartbeat! The large 10 inch plate features a love poem, written from the unusual and quirky perspective of the plate to you. It reads “I love the way you look at me, an the way you use your knife. I love the way you eat your food, you give meaning to my life.” The medium 8 inch plate reads “I am nothing but a simple plate, porcelain skin painted gold and blue. I am not a poet, just a dish, but I’ll leave that judgement up to you.” The small 6 inch side plate reads “A little bit on the side.” The texts are written in a romantic handwritten style of a old love letter complete with dips of ink and imperfections, and they have me utterly swooning!

TWO: King Edison Pendant Lamp

Whimsy and innovation combine the utilitarian with the decorative in this surprising little pendant. At only 5″ in diameter, the scale of the chandelier suspended inside the bulb is Lilliputian – the stuff dollhouse dreams are made of.

THREE: Persian Cowhide Rug

This rug is quite simply drop-dead sexy. The juxtaposition is as tasty as salty and sweet with a traditional Persian design being printed over parts of a natural cowhide rug. The result is a piece that looks as though it is revealing the true colours of this Bovine – country field wanderer by day, sophisticate by night.

FOUR: Pillows by artist Chad Wys

With names like “General Mustard Cushion,” “Tom Green Cushion,” “Lord White Cushion,” and “Lady Peacock Cushion” the sense of whimsy and playfulness with historical portraits is not lost on us.

With other wonderfully unexpected accessories like the Magic Magnetic Feathers {pictured below}, you will definitely want to explore all that mineheart has to offer. Their line is like oxygen for the imagination. Nothing short of delightful.

Hope this finds you enjoying an inspired Tuesday!

Bright Ideas + Beautiful Bulbs | Lee Broom

Perhaps it’s my British roots showing, but I have a soft spot for cut crystal. I don’t actually have much of it in my house, but the sight of it brings back memories of traditional trifle pudding, spirits decanting on the sideboard and candies carefully placed out on the coffee table at Christmas.
In stumbling upon Lee Broom‘s latest offering, I think I’ve found a way to invite those old memories back home to live again {and with fewer caloric consequences, I might add!}. A brilliant mix of delicate, decorative craftsmanship and industrially simplicity, the application for these Crystal Bulbs is seemingly endless.
A row of these hung over a kitchen island or peninsula would be simple yet stunning, offering a subtle yet glamorous rhythm to the heart of the home. Suspend clusters of 3 on either side of the mirror in a bathroom for a touch of glamour, or try this look above your nightstands in the bedroom for a fresh and elegant alternative to table lamps.
Individually hand-blown and hand-cut with a classic crystal pattern, these bulbs are impeccably crafted by Cumbria Crystal in the north of England. The finishing touch is the Lee Broom crested logo etched into each one. The bulbs can be purchased individually or packaged with the socket set.
It all began with the huge success of Lee’s Decanterlight range {see below}, a thoughtful repurposing of all but outdated crystal decanters. Not satisfied to rest on his laurels, Lee pursued the possibilities of this design idea even further. The resulting Crystal Bulb is truly a stroke of genius, transforming the everyday lightbulb into an ornamental light fitting of truly elegant status.
From upcycling and repurposing the vintage to reinventing the ordinary, it’s no wonder Lee Broom is one of the UK’s top product and interior designers. I hope today’s bright and beautiful idea has you thinking about the ordinary objects you know and love and all the potential they might hold. Thanks for the inspiration, Lee!
