Kinfolk + The Lost Art of Drying Herbs

I have a confession to make. I love herbs. In fact, I think they are one of my love languages. Lovely friends of mine who know this to be true recently led me to my birthday celebration this year with a sweetly bundled bunch of fresh herbs. Aromatic, intoxicating and rich with possibilities, herbs have the power to bring my senses alive to the bounty of nature.

I was utterly taken by a recent post by photographer Parker Fitzgerald for Kinfolk on Herb Drying and had to share it with you today. Since feasting my eyes and my imagination on these gorgeous photos, I’ve been dreaming about where I might create a herb drying shed of my own. Time to purge the garage, perhaps! In the meantime, I hope Parker’s stunning photography and Amy Merrick‘s beautifully organic styling inspire you as much as they have me!

Oh Canadiana! | Kitsch + Quirk at The Drake General Store

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all of my friends north of the border! In celebration of our home and native land, I thought I’d share a wonderful Toronto gem of a store, brimming with Canadiana kitsch and collectibles. Friends, meet The Drake Hotel’s General Store {1144 Queen St. W.}.

These Mountie napkins are inspiring a Canadiana themed party in my future. Yup. Just so I can use these napkins.
A totem tea cup set! Definitely not your typical gift to bring to family abroad. So fun!
With camp blankets from Pendleton and raw wool blankest from Canada’s last original east coast woollen mill MacAusland’s, Drake General Store has cozy covered.
I love their RCAF collection of travel cases and duffel bags. Vintage charm meets high-quality, casual style.

Visitors to Toronto and locals looking for heart-warming Canadiana kitsch, don’t miss out on Drake General Store! They’ve got four locations throughout the city well worth checking out!

What’s Upstairs at ELTE? | Children’s Department

If you’ve been to ELTE recently, you’ll know they’ve been undergoing some major renovations. The transformation began with the second floor, which was originally opened as the updated Sale Room {a flea market of sorts filled with one-offs, returns, slightly damaged pieces and lots of great finds}. Following the second floor’s reinvention, the natural light that floods this space now shines on 3 separate and equally beautiful departments – The Children’s Department, The Linens Department and The Bed Department. Today, a few photos of some of my favourite pieces from the Children’s Department.

I simply adore the delicate, slightly retro feel to these channel-stitched quilted pieces. And who wouldn’t want to snuggle up with that sweet, sketched cat? Purrr.
These animal decals come in a roll and easily transform plain walls into a sweet dream safari.
Character stories abound in the form of stuffed creatures ready to share whispered secrets from their new little humans.
I love the sweet and somewhat French quality to these bird cage lights below. I’m particularly fond of the way the fine wire “caging” frames a filament Edison bulb, offering simple warmth and charm.
Hideouts and campouts and sleepovers galore! Just imagine the stories that might be told inside this sweet canvas tee-pee.
Oh, Pooh. We’ll always be friends, won’t we?
“I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.” – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

In keeping with ELTE’s thoughtfully complete retailing, they have included a rug department specific to children on the upper level for true head-to-toe design of charming bedrooms and playrooms.

As you can see, ELTE’s second floor is well worth a visit! There’s definitely something there waiting to appeal to in the child in all of us.
